Inside BODYROK’s Road to 100 Studios

And, you’ve been with us through it all.
BY Kendall Becker

Yep, you heard it here first: 100 BODYROK studios are officially open from coast to coast.

When BODYROK began in 2012, the goal wasn’t simply to open a Pilates studio. Our founders set out to make their own mark on the method, creating a workout that felt intentional, energizing, and results-driven––one that clients would genuinely look forward to coming back to. What started with a single studio in San Francisco has since grown to 100 studios (and counting) globally, but the heart of BODYROK remains remarkably close to where it began.

Jake and Tina first discovered Pilates while looking for new ways to stay active together and quickly saw an opportunity to do things differently: to create a more athletic, experience-driven evolution of the method that felt immersive from the moment clients walked through the door. Together with Phil and Kim Palumbo, that vision became BODYROK––a signature method built around intentional programming, a custom reformer handmade in the USA, and an experience designed to make 45 minutes something clients genuinely looked forward to.

The early days looked very different than they do today. Jake and Tina taught classes themselves, building the business client by client and class by class. But from the beginning, growth was less about opening as many studios as possible and more about creating an experience people wanted to return to. As Jake puts it, “Growth has always been a byproduct of getting the experience right, not the other way around.”

And people did come back. As BODYROK grew throughout San Francisco, so did the community around it. Members became instructors, and instructors and longtime clients became studio owners themselves, wanting to bring the workout they loved to their own communities. When BODYROK launched franchising in 2015, Phil’s more than 35 years of franchise operating experience helped create the infrastructure to take that momentum beyond California while protecting the experience that made BODYROK, BODYROK.

That organic growth has carried BODYROK into New York, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Seattle, London, and beyond. Today, some of the people opening BODYROK studios are the same people who first experienced the brand from the other side of the reformer––something we think is one of the greatest validations of what we’ve built.

This summer, that journey brought us to West Hollywood and a milestone worth celebrating: BODYROK’s 100th studio.

There was something especially fitting about studio 100 bringing us back to California, where it all started 14 years ago. We welcomed the West Hollywood community the way we know best––with a week of classes, celebrations, and plenty of familiar faces, joined by friends of the brand including Vuori, Cymbiotika, Pressed, Rare Beauty, Mane, Sugared + Bronzed, Alice Mushrooms, and more. You can even read more about the journey in Athletech.

Fourteen years after that first San Francisco studio, BODYROK now welcomes more than 358,000 clients annually across 100 studios. Behind that number are the members who kept coming back, the instructors who bring the experience to life every day, and the franchise partners who believed in BODYROK enough to bring it home to their own communities. Some have been with us since the earliest days; others may have taken their first class this week. Every one of them a part of the BODYROK family.

So, yes, 100 is a pretty big number. But we’re far more excited about what it represents––and where we’re going next.

With hundreds of additional studios in development, the next chapter is already taking shape. But as we grow, the goal remains the same as it was in San Francisco in 2012: create an experience people want to come back to, and let the community take it from there.

Thank you for being part of the road to 100. Here’s to the next 100!
